Barnstable Youth Basketball is excited to offer a focused spring training program designed to help players elevate their skills and prepare for future success on the court. This program, led by renowned local trainer Ben Vaneria of Swish Cape Cod, will provide targeted instruction in key areas of the game. PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS FOR BARNSTABLE RESIDENTS ONLY.

- Dates: Seven Friday evenings, commencing April 4th, 2025. Please note there will be no training on April 18th and April 25th. The final session will be on May 30th.
- Location: Barnstable High School Main Gym.
- Time: Boys will train from 6:00pm to 7:15pm. Girls will train from 7:15pm to 8:30pm.
- Number of participants per session: A maximum of 10.
- Trainer: Ben Vaneria, Swish Cape Cod. Ben’s training philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach to player development, focusing on not only fundamental skills but also basketball IQ, confidence building, and a love for the game. His experience working with players of various levels makes him an ideal instructor for this program. You can expect high-energy sessions focused on skill repetition, game-like scenarios, and techniques to improve individual performance. Areas of focus may include ball-handling mastery, shooting mechanics and consistency, passing accuracy, offensive footwork, and defensive principles.
- Eligibility for Barnstable Athletes:
- Girls, Rising into Grades 5 and 6.
- Boys, Rising into Grades 7 and 8.
- Sessions: Players will be divided into two group for focused training sessions. Each session will be 1 hour and 15 minutes in duration, running back-to-back. Specific group assignments and session times will be communicated after registration closes.
- Focus: Participants can anticipate a curriculum designed to enhance individual skills, build confidence, and foster a deeper understanding of the game. Drawing from Ben Vaneria’s training methods, the program will likely incorporate elements such as:
- Skill Development: Emphasis on fundamental techniques in dribbling, shooting, passing, and rebounding.
- Offensive Concepts: Understanding spacing, movement without the ball, and creating scoring opportunities.
- Defensive Principles: Proper stance, footwork, and team defensive strategies.
- Game Situations: Applying learned skills in game-like scenarios to improve decision-making.
- Basketball IQ: Developing a better understanding of the game through instruction and practical application.
- Cost: $10 per session.
